The Greek façade is the west front of St Giles Kirk, which replaced an earlier kirk of more traditional style in the 19th century. The steps in front are a popular place for relaxing in the sunshine.
St Giles Church, the dominant feature of Elgin town centre is the work of Archibald Simpson, accomplished 1825-8. It has a giant Doric portico at the west end, and a tower (based on the monument of Lysicrates - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choragic_Monument_of_Lysicrates#Other_ver sions) at the east. The latter has a square clock tower topped by an open round feature with a short Corinthian column above (RHCMS).
