The Eye of the Needle and Sweeping Birches
The oak 'needle' stands in a parting of a grove of growing birches. Erected in May 1992 the trees have been trained to lean away on either side of the needle on the river bank. On the Five Weirs Walk side of the river Nash placed a found object, a 10 ton steel plug, as a viewing platform, from where this photo was taken.
Five Weirs Walk
The Five Weirs Walk is a 7.5km footpath and cycleway which follows the River Don from Lady's Bridge in Sheffield city centre to Meadowhall Retail & Leisure Centre on the city's eastern boundary. This stretch of river incorporates five weirs which were built as part of Sheffield's industrial evolution, and which give the walk its name.
