NG2993 : Lane marker north of Sgeir In-ao
taken 12 years ago, near to Sgeir in-ao [other Features], Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Great Britain

Lane marker north of Sgeir In-ao
Although a starboard-hand buoy, this one is normally passed to port, as it delineates the southbound shipping lane through the Little Minch; the other side of the channel is marked by NG2494 : Eilean Glas Lighthouse, Scalpay.
Sgeir In-ao was previously marked by a lightship (somewhat closer to the skerry) from 1906 to 1963 (except during war years) and before that by a buoy.
In the background can be seen a tiny sliver of Lewis, left, and faintly behind that, the Shiant Islands. Even more faintly on the right is part of mainland Scotland.
