East of Dolgoch hostel is this part of the Tywi Forest, large areas of which have been felled and replanted, while much of the rest is due for harvest in the next few years, so landscapes are changing almost by the month.
The Tywi Forest

The Tywi Forest is a very extensive area of coniferous plantation mainly established in the 1960s over what had been, in the main, open moorland. Abandoned post-Medieval settlements and Bronze Age monuments reveal that this landscape was more intensively populated and used in the past. With many of the trees being well over forty years old, felling is in progress in many parts of the forest, including here, hence the good condition of many of the stony forestry roads. Young trees are also becoming well established in many of the cleared areas.
