Ledgard Bridge Mills - steam engine
Ledgard Bridge Mills - steam engine
The power of the original single cylinder beam engine SE2019 : Beam engine, Ledgard Bridge Mills was increased by "pusher compounding" with this horizontal engine taking steam at a high pressure and exhausting to the original beam engine cylinder at a lower pressure.

This shows the Corliss valve cylinder. Above is the main steam stop valve (never a start valve) with electric stop motion. The inlet (steam) valves have trip gear by Newton, Bean & Mitchell but there are features to indicate that this is not the original valve gear.

This was one of my favourite sites but the mill is now flats and the engine has been in open air store for over thirty years. I would love to see it re-erected but this may never happen.
