J0748 : The Major Uprichard Memorial Hall, Tullylish (3)
taken 11 years ago, near to Gilford, Co Down, Northern Ireland
A building, built in 1844, between Tullylish and Gilford, now an Orange hall, named in honour and memory of Major Albert Uprichard, 13th Royal Irish Rifles, who died at the Battle of the Somme on 1 July 1916 at the age of 36
Link. He seems to have been part of a family who were prominent in the linen industry locally as owners of Uprichard’s Bleachworks.
He is also commemorated in the banner carried by the Rising Star of Tullylish Orange Lodge LOL 2020.
There is another Orange hall nearby J0948 : The Dr.Kane Memorial Orange Hall. The memorial hall might be a conversion from a building once used in the linen trade.
