Tourist boat Hirta setting off from the pier at Foula
In the 1960s Hirta did a day excursion from Scalloway to Foula, giving time ashore and also a circumnavigation of the island to observe the impressive sea cliffs. On this boat the island's former school teacher and nurse (Jack and Margaret Rae) were leaving after a return visit to the island, and were given a great send-off.
