The Hunting Tower
The Hunting Tower
This triangular building stands on an escarpment at the edge of Stand Wood some four hundred feet above Chatsworth House. Designed by Robert Smythson and built around 1582 for Bess of Hardwick (see SK4663 : Hardwick Hall ). It was probably used as a banqueting house and by the ladies to view hunting in Chatsworth Park. Now a holiday home with a fabulous view (see SK2670 : View from the Hunting Tower ).
