Castles of Munster: Downeen, Cork (1)

This tower on an island above Castle Bay belonged to either MacCarthy Reagh or the O'Cowhigs. When in 1602 it was captured by the English its approach from the mainland was said to be by means of a "little drawbridge of wood".
