Packhorse bridge over the Hogsmill River
Packhorse bridge over the Hogsmill River
The Hogsmill River is a chalk stream since most of its water comes from the dip-slope springs at Ewell. The Hogsmill River has for long filled an important role in the history of Ewell, both as a source of power for several mills, including the gunpowder mill complexes, and as an inspiring landscape for famous artists. Most famous painting of the latter is 'Ophelia' by John Everett Millais. See LinkExternal link for more information.
This packhorse bridge over the Hogsmill River is near Ewell Court Park. It is 18th-century and consists of a single semicircular brick arch. The bridge is Grade II listed.
