Mudeford: waves breaking against the concrete quayside
Mudeford: waves breaking against the concrete quayside
Rough seas produce a dramatic sight along the northern end of the quay, the only part of the concrete quayside which is exposed to the full force of the open sea, the remainder behind us adjoining the relatively sheltered harbour entrance channel, The Run. Although it is not visible here, the quayside structure is undercut, tending to throw any spray back over the water - but that is insufficient defence in today's high winds and much of the spray is being thrown over onto the path.

It was a very windy day today, with forecasters predicting a very notable storm overnight and into tomorrow morning, possibly to rival the great storm of October 1987.
