Notable for its exterior, clad in Doulton's Carrara-ware faience. The decoration is symbolic - "it depicts Gutenberg and William Morris ... presided over by the Spirit of Literature". The female figure in the gable holds a lamp and a mirror representing Light and Truth. Henry Williams's building of 1900-01 is now just a shell, the inside obliterated in 1972. Grade II* listed.
