Dunmore Hill-fort: inner defensive banks
Dunmore Hill-fort: inner defensive banks
The photograph, taken on the south-western side of the knoll of Dunmore, shows the starting point of several of the defensive banks on the western side. The banks themselves are overgrown with bracken, but they are well delineated by the ditches between them.

These are the innermost banks; the outermost ones are just a few metres down the hillside: NN6007 : Dunmore Hill-fort: outer defensive banks.

Dunmore is set on slopes below the peak of Ben Ledi; that peak is visible in the background.

Dunmore Hill-fort
Dunmore is a knoll set on the slopes below Ben Ledi. Its western side, which would otherwise have been the most easily accessible, is defended by a system of banks and ditches. The fort contains a well (now partially filled in), and there is an annexe on the northern side. See LinkExternal link (at Canmore) for aerial views of the fort (click on them for larger pictures) and for more information.
