The Blue Ball Inn from Countisbury churchyard
The inn dates from about 1800, became the Blue Boar in 1986, the Exmoor Sandpiper Inn in 1987, and reverted to being the Blue Ball in 2007. Dogs, children and walkers [in that order] are very welcome. The name is thought to derive from its history as a coaching inn, and a blue ball was attached to a pole located at the front of the Inn and raised to indicate that residents inn required passage on the coach.
