Derelict former Palace Theatre, Swansea
Occupying a triangular site between High Street, Prince of Wales Road and Bethesda Street, the building dates from 1888. It is one of only two surviving purpose-built music halls in Britain. Many famous stars performed here such as Lily Langtry, Marie Lloyd, The Karno trio (including Charlie Chaplin), Dan Leno, Vesta Victoria, George Robey, Little Titch and Morecambe & Wise. The Palace hosted the first ever cinema show in Swansea in 1896.
Its later uses included a bingo hall and a nightclub. Disused since 2006, the building as seen in this November 2013 view is in a fragile state. The previous month, the director of the Theatres Trust stated "Each year it's become increasingly more derelict, more abandoned, more neglected and this year in particular you can see that the buddleia has been allowed to let rip across the building and it's now getting into a very, very seriously neglected condition".
