St. Andrew's Church, Newgate Street, NE1 - cannon balls
See NZ2464 : St. Andrew's Church, Newgate Street, NE1 and NZ2464 : St. Andrew's Church, Newgate Street, NE1 - Baptistry. These cannon balls were discovered in 1960 when new meeting rooms were being built. They are thought to date from the 1644 siege of Newcastle when a cannon was placed on the church tower - see NZ2464 : St. Andrew's Church, Newgate Street, NE1 - tower - to fire over the nearby town walls into the ranks of the besieging Scottish Army. {Source: Church booklet.}
