See NZ2464 : St. Andrew's Church, Newgate Street, NE1 and NZ2464 : St. Andrew's Church, Newgate Street, NE1 - chancel. This hagioscope or squint is in the north wall of the chancel. In mediaeval times, such openings enabled people exluded from the church because of contagious diseases such as leprosy to see from outside into the heart of the church. This squint, however, provided a visual link between the side altar in the north aisle and the high altar - see NZ2464 : St. Andrew's Church, Newgate Street, NE1 - squint, chancel (2).
