The lagoon at Hodbarrow
The lagoon at Hodbarrow
A zoomed shot of the old flooded iron ore workings now an RSPB nature reserve. Prominent on the north side is The Commodore restaurant which seems to have closed in 2012 LinkExternal link - it certainly looked closed when we passed by later on. The building was once the mine office built in 1873 and is Grade II listed LinkExternal link Looming large in the background is Black Combe, the last high ground of the Lake District before the Irish Sea and a landmark for many miles about.
