Leigh-on-Sea station and Thames Estuary
Leigh-on-Sea station and Thames Estuary
View southward, across the ex-Midland (LT&S section) London Fenchurch Street - Barking (to right) - Southend - Shoeburyness line, electrified 1961. The station was a relatively new construction, built in 1934 -mile west of the original of 1855. Beyond are the Leigh Marshes at the eastern end of Canvey Island, then across the Thames Estuary is the Isle Of Grain; the Grain Oil Refinery is just visible in the left distance. (Cf. TQ8385 : Estuarial mudflats, Leigh-on-Sea).
