Geograph - photograph every grid square

Set into the walkway are 24 stainless steel plaques each one telling the history of Salford docks and the surrounding area, details of the men who dug the canal and the hardships they endured, the loss of life suffered by merchant seaman whilst local characters are also immortalised.

They were installed in 1994 to commemorate the 100 years of the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal by Queen Victoria and are the work of poet Su Andi and local people who contributed their own unique views.

The walkway starts near The Lowry and runs along the water's edge.
