Syston railway station, Leicestershire
Syston railway station, Leicestershire
Opened in 1840 by the Midland Counties Railway on the line from Leicester to Loughborough, this station closed in 1968. It was reopened in 1994.
View north towards Sileby and Loughborough. The 1840 station was rebuilt in 1874 but only had two platforms serving the "fast" tracks to the left. The 1994 platform was built to serve the one rationalised "slow" track.
The 1874 station building, situated where the houses to the left now are, was dismantled after closure and rebuilt at the Midland Rail Centre at Butterley.
