Former railway station buildings, Church Stretton
Former railway station buildings, Church Stretton
These buildings on the north side of Sandford Avenue bridge were part of the first railway station in Church Stretton, built in the 1850s. By the early 20th century, increased passenger traffic needed longer trains and thus longer platforms. The station could not be extended ahead because the entrance to the goods yard was in the way. So a new station was built on the south side of the bridge.
It was officially opened on May 23rd 1914 and is still in use today.
