Ashes Quarry, Stanhope
Weardale has seen an enormous amount of mineral and rock extraction and quarrying still goes on, but not at Ashes Quarry which lies just north of Stanhope. Ashes Quarry is divided into two main areas which are continuous but separated by a 'causeway' with two bridges running high above the workings along which a path runs. The eastern part of the quarry is seen here from that path just south of the bridges.
