Leckford: Trackbed of the former Sprat and Winkle Line
The Sprat and Winkle Line was the familiar name of the railway connecting Andover and Redbridge, and, via Redbridge, Andover and Southampton. Much of the route of the railway followed that of an old canal that was filled in to form the trackbed. The railway opened in 1865 and closed, after 99 years, in 1964. Today the trackbed forms a section of the Test Way long distance footpath.
