Flooding in Bryansford Road, Newcastle
New Year's Day 2014 was a washout in Northern Ireland as a belt of heavy rain moved in from the South. Gales lashed the Irish Sea Coast. More storms are piling up in the Atlantic - the next is due to hit us on Thursday night.
The twin bright spots of the day were Jools Holland's Hootenanny and Barenboim's Strauss Concert from Vienna.
