Guildhall, High Street, Bath (1)
Guildhall, High Street, Bath (1)
A most distinguished Georgian building, its "High Street elevation the best in Bath", with uncommonly good Victorian additions. The Georgian centrepiece (ST7564 : Guildhall, High Street, Bath (2)), designed by Thomas Baldwin and built in 1775-78, is refined Adamesque, whereas John McKean Brydon's extensive additions of 1893-96 strike a bolder tone, particularly the Vanbrughian rooftop pavilions (ST7564 : Detail of Guildhall, High Street, Bath (2)). Grade I listed.
Standing in the foreground is the Rebekah Fountain erected in 1861. Grade II listed.
