Prospect Mills, West Vale
A typical stone built West Yorkshire Woollen Mill. Originally owned by Inghams it was home to an 800 horsepower Pollit & Wigzell horizontal tandem compound steam engine. Built in 1884 with slide valves for 100 psi, it was rebuilt in 1912 with Corliss valves for 160 psi. It drove the four floors of the mill by flat belt from a 9' wide flywheel. The engine stopped in 1970 and was probably scrapped shortly after. The single-storey buildings here look like possible former boiler houses. I couldn't see a definite engine house as it might have been internal. The chimney has gone.
