SO5300 : Across the remains of the Inner Court towards Tintern Abbey
taken 7 years ago, near to Chapel Hill, Monmouthshire/Sir Fynwy, Great Britain

Across the remains of the Inner Court towards Tintern Abbey
Viewed from the A466. Mist around the Abbey and River Wye lingers on a January morning.
A nearby information board states that the medieval Cistercian precinct in this area extended for 27 acres (11 ha) enclosed by a high wall, parts of which survive on the hillside above the main road.
The foundations seen here are of buildings of the inner court, which was probably a communal guest hall. In the later Middle Ages, part of this inner court area was used for industrial metal working.
