Denton & Haughton Co-operative Society Store, Ashton Road, Denton
The Co-operative store and hall on Ashton Road at the corner of Amelia Street was erected in 1893.

The building is of Accrington Nori brick construction and it has two ornate Dutch (or Flemish) gables on the Ashton Road frontage. The walls are relieved by stone dressings and the first-floor windows have chevron-shaped brick arches and stone cills. The large hall on the first floor is accessed from the Amelia Street corner.

The Denton & Haughton Co-operative Society was registered in 1867 and the first co-operative hall on, or near, this site was originally the Ashton Road Trinity Wesleyan Church that was bought from the church authorities in 1872 for 500. In 1968 the Denton & Haughton Co-operative Society amalgamated with the Manchester & Salford Co-operative Society. Following a series of complicated mergers, the British co-operative movement became the Co-operative Group Ltd in 2007, trading as, 'The Co-operative'. LinkExternal link

Two inscriptions above the Amelia Street corner entrance SJ9295 : Amelia Street signage read:

D & H C S LD
AD 1893

In recent years the building was occupied by a painting and decorating suppliers before being occupied by "Cristal Main" which described itself as a "Gentleman's Club" which offered massaging and escort services. I understand that business has since closed.
