NT2776 : Ocean Mist, Leith

The Ocean Mist began a new life recently as a piano bar, nightclub and restaurant complex called Cruz.

David Stamp helped bring the ship, formerly owned by the Guinness family, to Leith in the mid-1980s.

David was the principal of the firm of Architechts, Gilmour & Stamp whose base was aboard the M.Y. Eala Bhan.

David was an entrepreneur and property developer who converted the first whisky bond warehouse in Leith to residential accommodation. Some twenty years on it would appear the catalyst which sparked the massive regeneration that is ongoing in this formerly grotty part of Edinburgh.

Sadly David died in November 2006.
