Water wheel, Styal
This wheel was originally built for Glasshouses flax mill in Pateley Bridge. It was one of the last wheels designed by William Fairbairn. In 1980 the wheel was dismantled, and complete with pentrough, governor and gearing, it was brought to Quarry Bank for installation in the wheel chamber.Six years of work before the wheel turned. The power transmission system was next, and it was not until 1991 that cotton came off the looms powered by the water wheel.
