Bancroft Mill - steam engine
Bancroft Mill - steam engine
The maker's plate and gauge board of the 1920 horizontal cross compound mill engine. The gauges show that the engine is working with main steam pressure bottom right, vacuum top centre and transfer pressure bottom left. Running off load, only a low steam pressure is needed - 35 psi and virtually no work is being done in the low pressure as the transfer and terminal pressures are almost the same.

Although the weaving shed is long gone, the power plant at Bancroft remains in full operating condition and is run at working speed - a relatively rare treat.
