Seed and St Philip's Church
Seed and St Philip's Church
Andrew McKeown’s sculpture is of a sycamore seed, which has been enlarged one hundred times. Cast in iron, the sculpture represents new life and growth emerging from the decline of the traditional engineering and manufacturing industries of the area. It was commissioned for the Irwell Sculpture Trail in 2002.

Seed is set at ground level in the middle of the open area adjacent to St Philip's Church which is located in the Chapel Street area of Salford. The sculpture symbolises the future and the potential this area has to grow and prosper from the seeds that were planted by the 2002 Regeneration Strategy. It is part of the Irwell Sculpture Trail.

The Church of St Philip dates from 1824; it is a Grade II* listed building (English Heritage ID:471589 LinkExternal link British Listed Buildings)
The Irwell Sculpture Trail
The Irwell Sculpture Trail is the largest sculpture route in the UK. It follows a winding route which extends for more than 33 miles from Bacup to Salford Quays and features more than 70 artworks from local, national and international artists.
