SO8523 : Rising sap

taken 8 years ago, near to Norton, Gloucestershire, Great Britain

Rising sap
Rising sap
This birch twig was roughly cut by a hedge trimmer a few minutes earlier.
I noticed the droplets of sap when I went under the hedge to put some grass clippings away, and there appeared to be drops of rain on this sunny March afternoon.
Looking up and this was the reason; sap rising through the tree's system and the droplet itself catching the reflection of the surrounding foliage.
I had to be quick; each drop took only seconds to expand and then fall.
