Oldway Mansion

Oldway Mansion was built in 1874 by Isaac Merritt Singer of sewing machine fame. The mansion was purchased by Paignton Urban District Council in 1946, and has been used as council offices and for civil marriage ceremonies. On 30 April 2012, Torbay Council approved plans for Oldway Mansion to be converted into a 57-room luxury hotel and spa. As part of the scheme, 56 sheltered retirement flats and 46 three and four-bedroom townhouses will be built in the grounds, along with a new orangery, wedding room and cafe. Work on the project is due to begin early in 2014 and is expected to be finished in 2015.
