Islington Park, The Whole World Is A Garden
Completed in 1987, Islington Park is built on the site of an old cemetery where 22,000 people were buried between 1829 and 1858. The cemetery was known locally as the ‘Plague Cemetery’ Link

) ; most of the burials were young children who died in the cholera epidemic that spread through England in the 1830s.
The mosaic in the centre of the park, designed by pupils from nearby St Philips School, was originally created in 1992. The wording reads:
“If you look the right way you can see that the whole world is a garden”
Part of the Irwell Sculpture Trail Link
, the mosaic was restored in 2010.
