The cream brick is enlivened by orange brick decoration that emphasises the structure.
Marland brick

Cream brickwork is a feature of North Devon. The hard cream bricks were made at Marland Moor by a succession of companies using stoneware ball clays dug from the Petrockstowe Basin SS5111, SS5112. These valuable clays have similar properties to those of the Bovey Basin near Newton Abbot in South Devon. Both basins lie on the Sticklepath Fault. In the past the Petrockstowe ball clay was exported by ship from Bideford.
