These humps are part of the unfinished iron age hill fort - either spoil heaps or else defensive structures in the making (or both). In the distance are the eastern outskirts Newbury.

Unfinished hill forts are very uncommon, and of interest to archaeologists as they give some indications of the methods of hill fort construction.
