The site of Ashburnham House, No.499 Anlaby Road, at the junction with St George's Road, was redeveloped in 1925 as a branch of the Hull Savings Bank, constructed in the Neo-classical style, to the designs of John Bilson, a prominent local architect. More recently the building was used as a restaurant before being converted into a public house known as The Three Crowns, opening in March 2003. The pub flies the flag for The Tigers, Hull City A.F.C. The name “Three Crowns” refers to the former shield, representing the city's coat of arms, located above the main entrance of the former bank.
