NS4079 : Disused quarry: western side

taken 8 years ago, near to Bonhill, West Dunbartonshire, Great Britain

Disused quarry: western side
Disused quarry: western side
On account of the slope of the field in which the quarry is located, the western edge, though consisting of uneven ground, does not have the precipitous drop of the eastern side (NS4079 : Disused quarry: eastern side).

See NS4079 : Disused quarry for the main description, and click on the end-note title for more images.
Disused quarry

The quarry is smaller than the disused Bonhill Quarry Link which is located about 250 metres to the WSW. Map evidence also shows that it fell into disuse at an earlier period than Bonhill Quarry: on the second-edition OS map (revised c.1896/97), it is already labelled an "old quarry"; the map revision of c.1914 shows trees growing within the pit.
