Ellenroad Engine House - steam turbine
Ellenroad Engine House - steam turbine
This is a Swiss-built Brown Boveri turbine believed to date from 1912 and installed at the BOCM oil mill in Selby in 1929. It remained in service until the plant closed in recent years and was then rescued during demolition. It is being stored here while decisions are made about its ultimate preservation. This is a very rare example of a rope drive turbine and it should be preserved. I did see it in situ but no photography was permitted due to the potentially explosive nature of the solvent extraction process.
