Scalloway Harbour
Scalloway Harbour
Scalloway is the second largest settlement in Shetland and was, in times past, the island capital. The castle, built in 1600 by Patrick Stewart Earl of Orkney and Lord of Shetland, was the administrative centre in the 17th century. Today, although only small, Scalloway is important for fishing and the oil industry. It is seen here on a murky day when all flights to and from Shetland were cancelled.
