The old Astor Steps
The old Astor Steps
The rear of the Egerton Arms on High Street. Next the Egerton Arms on the corner was a theatre. It was pulled down in 1904 and replaced in 1905 by the Empire. It was renamed the Hippodrome in 1915 and became a cinema in 1951 named the Astor. It burnt down in 1965 and its last advertised film "A Bucket of Blood" was never shown. The wall here contains the remains of some of the steps from the old Astor.
