Shrine to Cocidius at Yardhope
Shrine to Cocidius at Yardhope
Only discovered in 1980, the shrine consists of a natural niche in the rock with the figure of the god carved onto the rock face just outside its entrance.
The site overlooks a Roman road with a marching camp at Yardhope and Cocidius might have been carved by Roman soldiers.
