The new Cambridge line
The new Cambridge line
A new single-track down (northbound) line built in 2012-13 now carries Cambridge trains. Starting by crossing the East Coast Main Line on a flyover north of Hitchin, it snakes across fields between Ickleford and Letchworth before joining the existing Cambridge line. This picture was taken from the 9.20 Cambridge to King's Cross train on a sunny April day.

Compare this picture with two taken by Christopher Hilton during the line's construction: TL1931 : Building works beside the railway line, north of Hitchin (July 2012) and TL1931 : Building works beside the railway line, north of Hitchin (October 2012).
