Sudeley Castle: the reconstructed head of Richard III
Sudeley Castle: the reconstructed head of Richard III
On loan from Leicester is the reconstructed head from the skull of Richard III, one of the exhibits at the castle for just 3 weeks in April 2014, before its return for permanent display in the new Richard III visitor centre in Leicester. It was made using a 3D printing technique called stereolithography. Finishing details like the style and colour of Richard's hair and hat were taken from near contemporary portraits of the King. Twice owner of Sudeley, Richard III was one of a number of royal owners. As Duke of Gloucester he was first granted the castle by his brother King Edward IV, and then again on its reversion to Crown property when he became king.
