Wells Palace Moat
The moat was built by Bishop Ralph of Shrewsbury in the 1340s with ramparts which were mainly for symbolic status purposes rather than defence. The water which comes from springs in the immediate vicinity empties into the Chilcote Stream and was used for powering mills.
