Former Corn Mill in Longford
Former Corn Mill in Longford
A fine mill building built in 1837 and situated at the junction of Shirley Brook and Longford Brook. A large millpond survives behind the house but the waterwheel which operated until the 1950s has gone. Note the 'lucam' at the front of the building - a typical feature which housed the gear for hoisting grain sacks up to the storeage areas. This photo was taken from SK2237 although the mill itself is positioned just over the line in SK2137.
