taken 10 years ago, near to Dundonald, Co Down, Northern Ireland
Rolls Royce opened its factory, making parts for aircraft engines, at the corner of the Upper Newtownards Road and the Carrowreagh Road, Dundonald in 1966. It closed in 1977 as part of the corporate restructuring following the company’s financial problems in 1971. The factory later re-opened as Fisher Body, making seat belts, in 1979. The business then passed to European Components (TK-ECC) which closed in 2004. Now demolished the vacant site awaits redevelopment (recession permitting).
A steep minor road (reaching a maximum height of around 588ft) running, approximately north, from the Upper Newtownards Road, Dundonald towards Craigantlet. Part of the southern end is suburban. The rest is still agricultural.
