Saline lagoon at Cuckmere Haven
Saline lagoon at Cuckmere Haven
This photo shows a saline lagoon at Cuckmere Haven. It was created in the bed of a former course of the River Cuckmere with the first work being started in the winter of 1975. The lagoon was constructed partly by machine and partly by the efforts of nature conservation voluntary workers. Saline lagoon is a scarce habitat in Britain. This lagoon, in the Seven Sisters Country Park, is known to have had ringed plovers and oystercatchers nesting on the islands while spoonbills have also been attracted to the area.
